In order for a web site to be found in the search engines, which is where 99% of people will be looking for your products or services, two important steps must be taken.
First, the pages of your web site must be made "Search Engine Friendly", which means that the search engines will be able to locate keywords on your web site, and rank you with your competitors web sites in their directories, hopefully HIGHER than your competitors. We do this by utilizing keywords in a specific way on your site - some visible and some hidden. This is known as "Search Engine Optimizing" and will prepare your web site to be ready for the Search Engines.
Only after the web pages have been optimized properly should the web site be submitted to the search engines. Submitting a web site does not guarantee that it will be considered, and there are right and wrong ways to submit your web site.
You may have seen advertisements that GUARANTEE to submit your site to thousands of search engines for one low fee. The catch here is that most search engines automatically reject web sites that are submitted via submission software, and you only need to be picked up by a very few key search engines. Oh by the way, they guarantee to SUBMIT your web site, there is no guarantee that any of the search engines will actually accept the automated submission, in fact very few are likely to. Once a site is accepted in a search engine, there is no guarantee that it will stay there either, web sites are regularly removed all the time and must be re-submitted.
